Episode Four :: Making Beats With Es-Nine

Episode Four :: Making Beats With Es-Nine from 38thsquare on Vimeo.

Es-Nine is one of Colorado’s most talented producers, dj, and part of the hip-hop group Three The Hardway. He was kind enough to take us digging at one of his favorite spots and show us the process behind crafting a hip-hop gem “En Stereo”.

The fourth episode of 38thSquare is dedicated to Es-Nine.

Shout outs to Twist & Shout Records (2526 E Colfax Ave), and Manerok. Be sure to check out the track “En Stereo” on a new Manerok project coming soon.

Episode Three: Opt Won

Opt Won is one of our favorite people ever and it was only right to have him featured in our third episode.  Along with being one half of Denver-based rap group Isolated Generation (shouts & love to Ill 7), Opt is also an avid sneaker head, comedian, and all around stellar contributor to Colorado hip hop.  You think you know about sneakers?  Opt will probably school you before you have the chance to open your mouth.

The third episode of 38thSquare is dedicated to Opt Won.

Shout out to Emage Skateshop, Family Affair, and COLab for letting us crash their spots on an extremely rainy, cold Colorado afternoon.

Much love,

Dj Lazy Eyez & Miss Rachel

“I think Mayer is the only artist in the history of the label that I’ve signed after hearing only two songs.  Sometimes, you just know it’s the right thing to do.”

- Peanut Butter Wolf

If you’ve been sleeping on Mayer Hawthorne (Stones Throw), I feel sorry for you… but luckily, 38 has your back.  Through our good friends at Stones Throw as well as a nice connect with one of our favorite djs (Dj Low Key), we have an exclusive pair of tickets for the show in Denver tomorrow evening at the Larimer Lounge (doors @ 8pm, 21+, 2721 Larimer, Denver) which also features Buff1, 14KT and Denver’s own AWHAT! behind the decks.

Who introduced Mayer Hawthorne to Peanut Butter Wolf which lead to him joining Stones Throw?

Be sure to include your email address and I will throw you an email which includes all of the information you will need to get in the door tomorrow evening.  Don’t forget – the show is 21+.

As a bonus for all of our loyal supporters, check out a few new tunes below from the folks performing tomorrow evening:

Jolt and his art have been a staple in Denver landscape forever.  As an artist and entrepreneur, his projects range from community-sponsored mural projects to to designing his own clothing line to major commercial work to managing his own art studio to having his art featured in a city building.

The second episode of 38thSquare is dedicated to Jolt of Guerilla Garden.

Episode 2 coming soon. Who would you like to see featured on 38?

Last month, we began shooting our second episode of 38thSquare featuring Jolt / Guerilla Garden, which should be released within the next few days.  Lazy Eyez has been busy editing and perfecting our craft, while I’ve been busy trying to schedule guests for future episodes.

When we started this project, it was our vision to create these short episodes as a “thank you” of sorts to the people within our local community who have helped us to grow, learn, and also provided us with an amazing landscape and soundtrack.  With this being said, I would like to hear who you would like featured on future episodes of 38 – whether it be rappers, djs, designers, producers, artists, entrepreneurs, truly ANYONE who supports our local scene.  Feel free to leave any suggestions within the comment area of this post, catch me in the streets, email me, tweet me, whatever.  We’re open to working with anyone and everyone.

Also, we have a comprehensive Colorado hip hop event calendar which is hosted though the site.  If you would like your event added, please send an email to Lazy.

Finally, we’d like to thank everyone who has supported us this far from rocking with us at our release party to reposting our episodes all over the internet.  If there’s anything we can do to help you, let us know.

Episode One: Dj Low Key

To say the very least, our launch party last night at Shag was a beast.  We hope that you all enjoyed yourselves and got an understanding of what we’re trying to do.  Shout outs & love to all of our friends for making it possible.

Big ups to Dj Low Key for letting us feature him as our first guest and being one of our most trusted consultants.  He literally killed the dance floor last night.  Be sure to check out his episode above – he discusses everything from his work with Tanya Morgan to some of his favorite pieces of wax.

Love to Denver Frank @ Denver Made for the t-shirt giveaways and also being one of our supporters from day one.  Be sure to keep your eyes on his episode, which should drop well before the year is over.  Do NOT miss his site and the photos he’s posted from our launch party on his blog.  He’s been keeping Denver freshly clothed for a minute now.

Our flyer design was courtesy for Anthony, who has been a creative influence to us, as well as an all around incredible artist.

Our next episode features Jolt from Guerilla Garden – be on the look out.

Much love,

Miss Rachel & Dj Lazy Eyez

38thSquare.com intro teaser

We’ve been working really hard behind the scenes to choreograph, edit, and produce some of the best footage of the people, places, and things that make Colorado what it is.  In anticipation of our launch party, we wanted to give you a little taste of what’s to come.  Our intro is featured below.

Be sure to check out our launch party, August 15th, 2009 at Shag Lounge which will mark the release of our premier episode featuring Dj Low Key.  More info about the party can be found here.

Much love & a million thanks for all of the support,
